Dear Baden Lower School Families,

Every day there is something going which makes the schedule feel very busy and often frantic. With so much going on,  I am struck by the sense of purpose and determination happening in every classroom.  The early signs of spring around evidenced in the blossoms and leaves are a good reminder that we have much to look forward to in the coming months.

NO SCHOOL on MAY 1-An important reminder that on TUESDAY May 1, there is no school due to a holiday.  School will be in session on Monday April 30 and resume on May 2-4 during this week.  Other holidays include May 17-18 and May 28.

New Building-. We will hold a Parent Information Evening on Monday May 14 with further details of the new building project.  6.30-7.15 will be an Open House for any new or prospective parents.  From 7.30-8.00 pm, we will hold a Information session on the new building.

A reminder that the school is holding as special event to bid farewell Peter Mott, our Director of 25 years,  on Thursday June 14.  A barbecue, hosted by the Board of Trustees and the Parents’ Association, will be held at the Upper School from 3.30-5.30pm.Everyone is welcome and we hope to make this a truly all school event to celebrate and thank Peter Mott for his commitment to our school. It’s also a great opportunity to meet with friends, teachers and staff before the end of the school year. To help with catering, please register at www.zis.ch/bbq by May 14.

Early release on June 14-School will be dismissed at 2.30 on Thursday June 14, the last day of school.  This will help the entire school community to have time to pick up students and make it to the Upper School for Mr. Mott’s farewell BBQ.

ISA results-We have received the results from the ISA testing and will hold a parent information evening on Wednesday May 23 at 7pm at the Upper School in the theater. At this meeting we will share overall school results as well as hand out individual student results.  All student results will be sent home to parents via mail after this meeting.

Learning logs-Throughout the year, teachers have been discussing and collaborating on the implementation of Learning logs.  Our intention was to hold a parent feedback session on how these are going so that we can gather feedback on how we can improve implementation and process.  In looking at the schedule we realize holding such a meeting at this point is not feasible.  Therefore we will plan to do this next year.  As a school we will continue our discussions with a view to improving the process for teachers, students and parents.  We have learned many things and although there are some things we can improve we are convinced this is better for student learning and will continue this next year.   Please feel free to give any feedback to teachers or myself.

Mother Tongue Program-Please see attached letter from Ms. McCabe on new and information on Mother Tongue program development in Baden.
